Rob Wheat
National Media Relations Director
Rob worked as an employee and consultant with Nintendo (Golin) for 15 years (28 years total in media relations), and has real-world experience in television, print and radio broadcasting.
The Today Show, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, USA Today, Sports Illustrated and CNN are among the media outlets that he has garnered for clients. He has helped
launch such iconic products as the Wii and Pokémon. And worked on the launch of popular college football recruiting site Rivals.com.
Rob created an outreach called the RivalsWire for the website Rivals.com. Like a wire service, it distributed regular news emails on college football and basketball recruiting that resulted in thousands of mentions and helped build the brand, making it attractive to future owner Yahoo! Sports.
Rob’s PR experience mainly centers on video games, technology and sports / esports.
But Rob also has experience in health care, and two of his most special stories lie in that realm: CNN on a boy getting his heart repaired, in which he coordinated all logistics, and TeamSmile – a non-profit dentist outreach that made it on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.
A freelance sports and feature writer, Rob continues to write for such publications as The Kansas City Star and has worked with the Los Angeles Daily News, Cincinnati Enquirer, LA Parent and MLB.com among other outlets.
